Gabrielle Of St. Biel is on her way to the Highlands in Scotland to marry a Scotish Laird. With her are her 4 trusted guards, trunks full of salt and a dowery of land. On her way there she kills one man to save another mans live. Hoping to avoid problems with any Highland Clans she keeps it a secret that she killed the man and she proceeds to her wedding. But when her betrothed is killed she ends up in the middle of a old and new feuds. Everyone wants a piece of her and her dowery. Thinking to protect her Laird Buchanan calls on his friend Laird Colm MacHugh to keep Gabrielle save. Colm wisks her a way to his highland stronghold and advise her they will be married but Gabrielle is not having any of that and is constantly defying Colm's orders. Gabrielle soon starts to fall in love with Colm and will do anything to protect him. But there is a mystery surronding Gabrielle one that involves a lot of missing gold. And a number of men will do anything to get the treasure.

I enjoyed this book a lot. Julie Garwood does a great job of connecting characters from her other books to her new books. But if you have not read the previous books you do not fell like you are missing the story.

If you want to read the other books that include characters and connections to the best of my knowledge it goes like this. The Secret then Ransom then Shadow Music. However Shadow Dance leads and connects us to Shadow Music so you should read it before Shadow Music. But you should really read Heartbreaker, Mercy, KillJoy*, Murder List, Slow Burn and then Shadow Dance which leads us to Shadow Music. Now I am confused and I own all but the newest book Shadow Music. Oh just read them in the order the were written.
The Secret
Ransom
Heartbreaker
Mercy
Killjoy
Murder List
Slow Burn
Shadow Misic
Shadow Dance
* Killjoy is not about the Buchanans but it is about a secondary character in Mercy so it is connected.
