I work in the 8th grade and have worked in every grade down to kindergarten and Sharon Creech captures the voice of a kid very well. I believe this child would still be in elementary school due to the immaturity in the writing but that just makes it better. It is a very short read, I read it in less than an hour while in class. I laughed and the kids were wondering why I was amused and I didn't bother explaining it because the truth would be too close to home for them and therefore not see the humor. It is a boy writing a poetry journal and his transformation through the school year. I laughed, I cried, I read it again and still laughed and cried!
