This book was a gift from my sister who usually has very good taste, and it did not disappoint. It was a really fun read, and I laughed out loud at more than one point. The protagonist is a young American woman who longs for adventure and whose wealthy uncle agrees to send her to Paris. She is somewhat of a precursor to a Bridget Jones-type character who gets into silly mishaps and chooses the wrong man, but Sally Jay is much more confident and has a healthier body image. What surprised me the most was that the book was originally published in the '50's and has been reprinted countless times since then. For that fact, it has somewhat of a shock value when one considers how the book must have been received by some critics during that more "conservative" time period. (Not that things didn't go on, but they weren't talked about so freely.) It is a well-written, light-hearted read.
