The illustrations are AMAZING--the period detail blows me away. So much research! And the colouring is fantastic, too.

There are two storylines, which I assume will intersect at some point but haven't yet in this first volume--the anti-Nazi Luftwaffe ace fighter pilot (male), and the anti-Communist Soviet ace fighter pilot (female). OMG I am a SUCKER for the Russian women fighter pilot comics! I discovered this one because there was a great big poster for Volume 2 hanging in the microlight hut in the Aeroclub de Couhe-Verac, Brux et Civrasien, which we visited on our holiday in France last week (but we did not go flying, because it was pouring).

I find it interesting that both the French and German words for "fighter" plane is "hunter." Makes a good metaphor.
