Deb's rating: 4 stars

A powerfully written novel, told from the perspective of 5 year old Jack who lives in Room, with Rug and Wardrobe and Plant, and his Ma. One quickly comes to understand that Jack and his mother are locked away without access to the outside world, except that Jack doesn't know this. He only knows Room and the world his mother has created for him in this nightmare existence. I hate to give anything away, but prepare for some heart-wrenching moments. And you may start thinking about what's real or not in your own world.

Madeleine - 2 stars
Meh. Here's my thing. The mom's educated. They have TV. This kid knows how to use the word "omnivore" but he does not know how to use correct pronouns? I found the writing style a bit contrived. Was good enough to read all the way to then end though so 2 stars it is.
