If you like Lisa Jackson, Tami Hoag, Kathy Reichs, Patricia Cornwell, etc. etc. - then Beverly Barton is definitely in their league...only more clever. It is still a "cookie-cutter" story: Egomaniac is creatively killing and it takes one very sexy cop/detective/agent/investigator/prosecutor to bring the killer to justice. There's a matching of wits, a tete-a-tete, but in the end our hero/heroine prevails - seemingly without any assistance. There is usually a romantic tie-in of some sort - some craggy antagonist that eventually wins over the MC's heart. Sound familiar? It should - it's the template for these mass-market paperbacks that you pick up at the grocery store on the way to airport. And this book is no exception, however - Barton does add in a few more details (the book is a little longer than the standard) and (for once) uses teams to track down the bad guy. All in all, it's an entertaining story - and it should do well out in the market. Now is the time to begin the Bestseller Game.
