This book in my opinion is a very heart warming book. It is about a kid that has 2 brothers. He lives with them his dad and a mean mom. He lives down in the basement and eats scraps from the leftovers. His brothers kinda like him but since his mom tells them to be mean then they are. His dad is the only one that can save him. He dreams about it all the time. His name is David. He runs to school when his brothers get a ride. If he wants to eat he has to get all the chores done within a certain time or he will get beaten.

His dad is always out late at work and thats when he gets beaten. Sometimes she will be nice to him but that never happens much. When he is at school he steals food from the other kids lunches and the teacher told his mom and when he got home he went into the bathroom with her and she made him puke up everything that he ate. David was so tired of her he tries to get out.

One day at school they were having physicals and it was his turn. The nurse was asking the questions like his mother never feed him . So they called her in and she said that she feed him every day and lied about everything. But that nurse knew that there was something wrong with that. The went over to there home one day and she told David to lie about everything and he wouldn't get beaten. He knew if he told the truth that he might get out but he lied.
