** spoiler alert **
This book is about a girl named Kate who has two divorced parents that have two opposite views on love which cause Kate to have weird opinion herself. Kate's dad is a Shakespear expert and is offered to teach a Shakespear seminar in Italy. Kate is allowed to come and attend the seminar. The first day she meets two other Americans, Tom and Lucy, and three Itlians, Silvia, Benno and Giacomo in the seminar. The group also finds out that they will be prepareing for a ball which will be held at the end of the seminar and answering love letters everyday, that have been written to Juliet. When they find out what they will be doing all summer they aren't too happy. Kate is especially not happy because she is not the lovey dovy type of Shakespear reader but rather the litterial/ patterens in potery type. Her two best friends back home make a bet that she won't fall in love in the most romantic city in the world and want her to give detailed updates all the time. Silvia and Benno decide that Kate and Giacomo are the two most opposite people in the and they won't ever fall in love so they want them to think the other loves them. Kate overhears this and tells Giacomo. They decide to play a trick on the other two and fall "in love". Silvia realizes that these two are really falling in love and tells Kate a false thing about Gaicomo to get her mad at him. In the end it works out for everyone.
The best part I thought was when they got to perform their ball and parts of the play. I also like how Kate and Giacomo fall in love and that he is an awesome Itlain boy. I also thought it was intresting how the book jumped to differnt characters views.
