Being a NFL fan, I had heard about the Vick case on the news, but did not want to hear the details about dog fighting. However, I was much more empathetic towards the pit bulls that were rescued. Because there was a gag order to not talk about the dogs at the time, the public (me) could not hear the details of the saved dogs specifics. The gag order was lifted and the author was able to talk to many of those involved in the saving and rehab of the 50 rescued pit bulls. This book is written by a Sport Illustrated editor. His writing is very factual and objective. The first 1/3rd of the book, or less, is about the case itself. It does provide some details about dog fighting, but not graphic or sensentialized. The rest of the book focuses on the 40ish dogs that were able to be saved. They follow a dozen dogs rehab, foster home placement and ultimately some were able to be adopted. Some dogs are also now working with elderly and children. It's amazing how the each of the dogs stories are followed and how they were able to be integrated back into society. As a dog lover, I was touched and happy to know each of the dogs stories. Personally, Jhonnie was my favorite story : )
I highly recommend this book if you want to know more about how sensitive, loving and agile pit bulls ca be.
