Holy Deus Ex Machina, Batman! I like a surprising twist as much as the next fella, but really... Supernatural creatures AND interstellar invaders in the same book? Might be a bit excessive.

Anyway, aliens that act a hell of a lot like US forces in Afghanistan invade our planet, blow up most of our cities, and are then surprised when we don't kiss their asses. Apparently we're savage beasts (duh) and don't work the same, sociologically speaking, as every other race out there. Except that the author's seemingly limited grasp of genetic drive makes for a shoddy explanation. Apparently our need to protect our offspring at risk of our own lives is unusual, even though it's shown by most mammalian species on the planet, suggesting it'd be likely on others as well. But whatever. Eventually, the baddies get fed up with us fighting back, and that's when our unstoppable allies make an appearance! It's silly and unlikely, but hey... It's space opera. What can you expect?

It's Syfy (bastardized spelling intentional) fare, but it's fun and mindless. Recommended for bored alt-fic fans until something better comes out.
