Crow Lake

This novel is very much like consuming several empty calories: so much to read, not a lot to comprehend. This novel went on, and on, and on. I found a lot of the information given about Katie's past overly descriptive. Far too much irrelevant detail! I also found the book to be quite repetitive, I don't know how many times it was mentioned that the neighbors were dropping off meals. I don't know how many uncomfortable dinner table conversations there were. I don't know how many chapters were dedicated to Bo's common needs, changing the diaper, putting her to bed, etc.
I found Katie to be quite frustrating. She's insanely negative! She's also over dramatic. It bothered me the fact that she was still rolling around in her own pity at age 30. It think she's pathetic, to be focusing SO much on the past, and letting it affect her present life. I never found it overly clear why she looked up to Matt so much. Yeah, he's brainy and I get that he spent time with her at the ponds, but that was about it. There was no specific event that made her glorified perspective of matt all that understandable. She even mentioned that "Daniel just isn't Matt." It bothered me that here she was, 30 years old, studying what she loved, teaching it to other students, and in a serious relationship with a sensible man, and she's unhappy. It drives me insane.
This book was like reading some crazy lady's every thought. Terrible novel. If I could give this book a half a star I would.
