This is a good continuation of the story of the Heralds' Collegium founding begun in Foundation, although I could have done with a reread of the first novel before diving into this one. Definitely a Mercedes Lackey "young Herald" type of book, so if you've read a few there isn't much here that will surprise you. I did enjoy the characters very much, and it's always a treat to visit Valdemar for a little while, especially now that we're exploring more of the history between Vanyel's time and Selenay's reign. Worth a read if you love Valdemar, but if you've gotten annoyed with the stories before then this may not be worth your time.
