This is the first Jack Daniels book I've read. I didn't know anything about the series other than it was about a female cop. I started reading in the early afternoon, then didn't put the book down until I finished it that night. I really enjoyed it. The back cover description doesn't give too much away, so when the first plot twist hits about 33 pages in, I was surprised and excited. That excitement lasted throughout the entire book.

One of the issues that I had with the book was that sometimes I didn't like the tenses used...quite a bit is written in simple present tense (I walk into the kitchen, I stare at her cheek, etc.). It's just a preference thing, but it felt distracting somehow. The other issue with the book is that Jack seems have a "He/She is going to kill me and there is nothing I can do to stop it" moment every few pages by the middle of the book. It's exciting, but felt a bit repetitive.

As I said, this was the first Jack Daniels book I've read. I didn't feel lost with the characters (back story is touched upon, but not in detail, so I don't feel that the earlier books have been spoiled for me). I'm looking forward to reading another book in the series soon.
