Adorably creepy. (Never thought I'd put those two words together). This children's book would so have been up my alley as a kid. I love the whole Chronicles of Narnia, finding a hidden door aspect that's in Coraline. In fact, back in the day, when I was a wee lass, I was obsessed with the possibility of hidden doors and that I had a twin that my mom kept hidden from me and she/he was off at boarding school somewhere (but that's another story for another time. I watched way too much TV). And at one point, I was convinced there was a secret passageway in my bedroom closet, knocking on the drywall, wondering how I was going to get through, sort of like Coraline. Overactive mind much? Point being: I enjoyed the curiosity that Coraline possessed, even though it ended up getting her in some trouble. And I also liked the way Gaiman wove the morals into Coraline, using creepy as a vessel: The grass isn't always greener and always be thankful for what you have, appreciate what you have. I think Coraline is a great children's book and the enchanting aspects are still present for adults to enjoy as well.
