Well, the majority of this book is probably the biggest downer I have ever read, added to a swirling preaching thread of how the health care system in the United States sucks. All of that, I could have done without, except the contrast of it -the excellently written characters and the way Shriver writes fearlessly and honestly - somehow made it interesting and pleasing to read. I read the majority of it in one day.

I read this because it was a finalist for the National Book Award in 2010, and might go back and read more by her now.

Rachel Yeah, I found the daily life parts incredibly depressing. Although I guess that helped me understand why Shep was aiming for The Afterlife. :D
