Read from October 13 to 18, 2010

This was a much better book than the last one in this series. Finally, Inspector Gamache undid the mistakes from the last book. This book had three stories going at once: Inspector Gamache reliving a case gone terribly wrong between "The Brutal Telling" and this one; Inspector Gamache 'helping' the Quebec police find the person who murdered a man who was obsessed with finding the final resting place of Champlaign; and Inspector Beauvoir going to Three Pines, ostensibly to recover from his wounds from the between-books case, but really to look at the case from the last book with fresh eyes to decide if they had made a mistake.

My friend Judy goes into rigors that I dare correct mistakes in library books, but this one had such an egregious mistake that I HAD to fix it. In liturgical churches, the place where the congregation sits is called the nave. Inspector Gamache had occasion to go into a church. Because editing is non-existent anymore, the author or Spell Check had him walking into the knave. The pencil came out on that one!
