The Case of the Lost Boy

So I both liked this book and was horrified by it. The dog was cute, the level was easy and vocabulary appropriate, I even thought that the dog loving all foods was funny. What stuck out to me were these huge looming issues like the dogs being killed at the pound, some creepy guy kidnapping kids, and the whole dog being sent to the pound and not believing it has been abandoned. Its like encouraging a little kid to continue to live in denial that a loved one has died, but I don't know if my instinctive horror at the dogs disappearing to be put to sleep or the family abandoning the dog or the kidnapping are just an adult reaction. I know there are more books of this type (told from the point of view of the dog) that I'm going to have to check out to see how they stack up. 2 and 1/2 stars.
