This is a good book. However, it reminds me too much of other books like it in the recent past. There is the theme of unrequited love, the political/social sub-context and central characters that are flawed and self-absorbed. Desai is good at doing the descriptive bit. She portrays our failings and little idiosyncracies but doesn't get too far under the skin to really analyze motives. In addition, unlike some other books it resembles, this book leaves me a little dissatisfied when I finished the book because the story felt unfinished. That said, I really like the pictures that Desai paints with her words.
