great-reads
I wish that I had read this Gregory Maguire book before reading “Wicked”, “Confessions of an Ugly Step Sister” and “Mirror, Mirror”. I was a great book but I expected something a bit different given my prior experience with the author and although I did very much enjoy the book, it kind of left me wanting.
That being said I do highly recommend the book. It was easy to connect to the main character and fall into the story and I did get that sad “saying goodbye to a new and incredible friend” feeling in the pit of my stomach when I finished the book. As usual, Mr. Maguire’s flare for plot and character development shines like brilliant star and you will fall in love (which is what I look for in a book).
If you are unfamiliar with Gregory Maguire and are interested in reading any of his books I would advise reading this one first as it feels a bit less polished in the post “Wicked” world.
