A book: 500 Great Books by Women
Read from March 24 to 30, 2011
I got to about page 140, but I couldn't go on. The book has some interesting parts and the story is obviously an important one to tell, but the writer's made a hash of it. She took something that could have been straightforward and tried to tart it up. I think she was aiming for Southern Gothic. It's so tiresome when a writer can't just let a worthy nonfiction story be what it is.
