Not just a goodread, positively an amazing read. o.k, i still have fifty pages to go but what the hell. talk about "sinewy grace" in prose, this is the definition of it, sparse and organic what more could you ask for. Also, the world-building, the logical clarity in composing and thinking through the cultural encounter of two utterly alien civilization is quite, well, otherworldly. in case you want to know what life in an anarchist society might look like, this is probably the best place to begin. I always think writing from the first-person perspective is one of the hardest things to do and though some of the time leaps between Urras and Anarres are a little jarring, that might be precisely the intended effect, the extreme sociocultural dislocation experienced by Shevek in travelling between these two polar opposites of planets. shevek is about as fully a realized a character as you will ever get around to apart from Saleem sinai snotnose and the dude from 100 years of solitude. without getting to hyperbolic, in my opinion, The Dispossessed is quite monumental. supposedly it also gave a kickstart to the anarchist movement in the US and inspired some skilled copycatistry, see "Salt" by this english sci-fi man, Robert adams or smthng. peace out.
