I was a huge fan of the Night Angel trilogy and eagerly awaited his newest venture and it was not disappointing. Without giving too much away, the basic outline is centred around a young, overweight boy named Kip aged 15 who is found to be a 'Drafter' - a word for someone who 'drafts' magic. Magic in this series is marked by the ability to draw a colour and these colours also have a link to personality - similar to Gemmell and Similar to Jordan ie: Reds are fiery, Blues are calm and ordered. Every generation, there is one known as The Prism and s/he can draft all colours. As Kip moves into the world of Drafters, maintaining ties to old friends and making new friends - and enemies - he is drawn to the secrets of his past and unknowingly becomes a pawn. At least, this is how I see it.

Weeks once again, is able to create some background and move the pace of the book forward and uncover secrets and create some depth to characters which keep you hanging on to see where it leads. His ability to draw you into believing those are 'good' and those who are 'evil' might actually be the other way round is what I liked about his Night Angel trilogy and there are echoes here as well.

He manages to create some sarcastic humour and vividly creates the characters & scene making it easy to visualise as you read. Top marks to Weeks - this is a fantastic book and I cannot wait for the next one.
