A great new take on some very old stories, with striking illustrations to fit. Graphic novel form really brings Murder Mysteries to its fullest, immersing the reader in the two worlds of the mystery and fanning the flames of their imagination. Yet while the novel is strong in artwork, it is also very well-written (as is to be expected of Neil Gaiman) and would make quite a good story even without the illustrations. Murder Mysteries is a short story with the fullness and depth of a full-length novel. I read the whole thing in one sitting because I simply could not put it down. The mystery kept me guessing until the end, and then surprised me yet again with another delicious twist revealed in the ending. The story left me with much to think about, and I am still pondering some of the symbolism and meaning behind it. My only complaint is that at 64 pages, it goes by far too quickly.
