This is the third book in my read all my friends favorite book campaign. This one is from Skye and though she does not have any favorite books listed this one was communicated to me as highly recommended. I only gave this book 3 stars because I thought it moved slowly at times. It took me a while to relate to the characters and really feel like I cared about what happened to them. It was a good "coming of age" story so to speak, the main character Taylor learns that the world around her is a lot more cruel than she ever imagined, by being confronted with major issues (such as child molestation, asylum, torture, etc.) in a second hand way. She "inherits" a child who was molested and helps Turtle (her name for the child) out of her shell. She befriends two political refugees who are unrecognized as such by the US and therefore illegal aliens on the run and learns about the brutality in their country and the persecution they still suffer. It was well crafted and a good story about the every day life that becomes Taylor's journey to a new understanding of the world around her and what is important.
