Kirsten I'm interested in hearing how this is when you've finished it; I find Napoli to be really uneven, and nothing I've read was as good as the first book of hers I read, Beast. But I keep going back to her because she always has such intriguing ideas!

I was lukewarm. The writing was clunky and hard to get lost in, which was only exacerbated by the flat characters. DG certainly grew and changed, but in a fairy tale/moralistic way rather than in depth and personhood. I love fairy tale retellings because of the way the authors round and deepen the characters, and this one just didn't go there. On the other hand, the gruesome details were pretty effective and the premise was compelling!
