I just love books that are set in Cajun country, so that was a big plus with this book. I was also surprised by how funny this book was. This was due to the couple in the book. They both had very developed personalities, ones that had a strong nature and often would butt heads, but in a good way.
Saria was great as a wild child raised in the bayou, running free as a small child, which gave her great knowledge of the land and what to expect. It is in her roaming ways that she discovers things that lead her to ask for help, which brings Drake to her.
Drake has been a fun character for me in the previous books, but this time around we see him in a different light. With Drake investigating in the bayou, everyone around her is suspect. I really felt sorry for Saria at this point, it has to be hard to suspect your friends and family of doing horrible things.
The mystery part of the story surprised me on some fronts, but then again about half way through I figured out part of it. I was also surprised by all the secrets that the bayou families held. I did love how Drake dealt with all of those secrets and took charge of what needed to be done.
Drake and Saria had great chemistry from the start. I thought it was funny how they each were attracted to the other right away and how each one of them thought they weren't good enough for the other. But that wasn't the case they were perfect for each other.
I am hoping that we get to see some more action from others in the bayou in later books.
