An historical fiction set in Iran in the mid 1900's with a charming fairy tale quality to it. Anahita is a young girl who doesn't want to marry the man her father has chosen for her. She convinces him to hold a contest, to whomever can solve the riddle that she weaves into her wedding carpet will win her hand in marriage. Anahita is a strong female character who bravely stands up for her own interests at a time when women typically have no choices. The contest draws an interesting group of suitors including, a childhood friend, a handsome prince, a schoolteacher and a repulsive diplomat. I found myself going back and forth on who I wanted to win and even right up until the very end I was not sure who the winner would be.
