A memoir of learning a medical profession on the front lines similar to Final Exam or Weekends at Bellevue, but in this case the author is not a doctor but an English professor who retrained as a nurse. Working on an oncology floor, she learns about cancer treatments, the interpersonal politics of a hospital, and how best to approach patients with a difficult diagnosis. This was a perfectly good entry in a genre that I typically find worthwhile, since I work in a hospital but not in a clinical area.
