Being a fan of the Disney version of Mary Poppins, I was anxious to get another version of the story. Mary Poppins is a family favorite that the majority of people are familiar with. Mary Poppins is about a nanny who takes the Banks children on all kinds of magical adventures. After reading P.L Travers' version, it is obvious that the book differs from the Disney version.
The book contains episodes of their adventures, where the movie has an overall plot. Even though I am a huge fan of the Disney version, I really liked the book as well. The book took me to a magical place while reading it because of the author’s choice of words. The book sparked my imagination and made the adventures come to life in my head.
The movie left some of the more scary adventures out that were described in the book. It also portrayed a more cheerful nanny. However, it is clear in both the movie and the book that Mary Poppins cares about Jane and Michael. The book provides the adventures seen in the movie, as well as new adventures!
All in all, I thought this was a good book. Comparing it to the movie, I remain a fan of the Disney version; however I still enjoyed the book very much. It is an excellent choice of children’s books to recommend to students. The book is engaging and magical!
