I enjoyed it.

Neither salacious nor proselytizing, this book is an informative, if not academic look at what the Bible has to say about issues of sex & gender roles and the answers are somewhat surprising.

While it's bound to ruffle the feathers of those who hold the the Bible as the immutable & literal word of God, rather than as an anthology of literary artifacts, Coogan's book is well researched & thoughtfully constructed.

"God & Sex" challenges preconceived notions by often giving the origins of those very same notions in a cultural & historical context. It reveals both the contradictions within the Bible and the hypocrisy of selectively choosing passages as religious ideals instead of reading & interpreting the Bible as a whole.
