It's fun to read a book that is about ordinary people who, though they don't amount to much according to the world, are appreciated nonetheless. This richly detailed reminicent story truly captures the country immigrant life of the early 1900's. I feel as if I was there. It is a book that breathes tranquility and nostalgia. It is honest and down-to-earth. In a way it reminds me of catcher in the rye, without the seamy side.
