I am not sure why the books is titled Noah's Compass. It is clear that the Old Tesatament prophet Noah did not need a compass because he only needed to stay afloat, thus knowing anything about direction was irrelevant. So does the title tell us that the protagonist is simply drifting directionless, or does it tell us that the protagonist needs no religion or other external means to guide his life because he has complete trust in fate or the universe that he is certain that in the end whatever happens will be whatever is supposed to happen.

It seems that Ann Tyler writes beautifully the same story over and over again. So though I love the way she puts words together I grow weary of the message.
