This book was a 're-read" for me. I read it for the first time before my Goodreads days. I was expecting to give it four or even five stars, but I had to settle for three - more like 3.5. I still love some of the characters. Lloyd and Momoko, along with Will and Cass are wonderful couples. But Yumi was really annoying on this re-read. Elliot had one small redeeming act at the end, but I did not find it all that redeeming, actually rather insignificant. I still really enjoyed the "farm talk," and greatly appreciated the struggles of Will and Lloyd who tried to do the right thing in farming, but still confronted the problems of making enough profit to pay the bills. I learned so much about genetically modified crops and heirloom crops with this novel. I would still recommend it, even though I gave it only three stars.
