We're just about to finish Wind in the Willows. This is yet another book that I missed as a child because I saw talking animals and turned up my nose.

Kenneth Grahame is a beautiful--lyrical, eloquent, BEAUTIFUL--writer. Some passages are so achingly gorgeous that I had to read them aloud to my husband because one read-aloud (to children) just didn't do the prose justice. Passages have brought me to tears. Grahame takes his place alongside Hawthorne as a master stylist of English prose.
