I love these books. This is the second chapter in the King Raven series and well worth the read.

Lawhead has continued his trilogy with much the same tone but in an entirely different voice. This one is told in alternating points of view. There are portions told in the third person, but much of it is told by Will Scarlet himself, and these portions are by far my favorite.

Will has been captured while on a dangerous errand for Rhi Bran and as he sits waiting for the hangman's noose, he tells his story to a wary monk. His journey is rich and full of humanity. And, though his voice is softened with a sensitivity of heart, it was a pleasure to read this very manly tale from a very manly perspective.

While this continuation shares the same plodding pace as HOOD, it is a compulsively readable and delightfully comforting read. The characters live and breath on the page and the twists and turns of plot kept me hanging on.

If possible, I liked SCARLET better than HOOD and am looking forward to sitting down with the final installment, TUCK.
