I've probably read about 12 of the Redwall books. They are cute books for the child reader, but after reading a few, the plots get to be very same-same. The good guys are the little folk (squirrels, hedgehogs, mice, otters, etc.) of Redwall Abbey and the Badgers of Salamandastron and the bad guys are always Rats and Stoats and Minks and other animals of that ilk. Bad guys get their asses handed to them on a platter in the end.
The thing that finally convinced me that I didn't need/want to read any more Jacques is that it gets tiring to read the dialect as it is written. No one speaks plain English. It's all Hinglish and "Arrr there mateys, 'em rascally Redwallers won't know what hittem, or me name ain't Rascally Fang Fangson, nor nobeast'll get our alive." Arrr, it finally got on me bloomin' nerves. Still, if I had a little reader, I'd buy them as many Redwall books as they wanted.
