I can easily understand why a lot of people I know did not like this book, or at least, won't recommend it. There are vivid descriptions of very violent acts (especially against women),deviant behavior, and questionable relationships. However, I liked the book and will continue with the series. I liked how the author developed the characters, especially how he made me feel so decisive about each of them. With each character, I knew if I liked them or not--it is a very black and white feeling. I like Lisbeth, I don't like Erika, etc. The only person I wasn't sure about is Henrik. It was also interesting the way the book was written, with two plot lines--the murder mystery, which was very suspenseful and exciting, and the libel suit and Wennerstrom case, which I did not find too interesting, and lacked the concrete details of the mystery. I felt finished once the murder mystery was resolved but still had about 75 pages to go. I thought the book lost some steam at that point. Even so, I am excited to read the next book, which I purchased immediately after finishing this one.
