4.5 stars! This book was totally up my alley: Victorian London, fantasy, lots of references to Victorian literature... The characterization was really well done, and all of the major characters felt multifaceted, complex, and unique. There was an I-love-you-so-much-I-have-to-protect-you-from-myself romantic subplot, but I thought it, too, was handled deftly. It wasn't the main focus of the plot or of the heroine. The whole book felt like it had real depth.

And I can't believe that I have to wait till the second book to find out what's wrong with Will!!
