This is a story of two southern boys who first meet in the 1970's. One is black and lives in a run down shack with his single, hardworking mother, while the other is white and lives with his overdoting mother and cold hearted father. They meet and initially forge a friendship, but before long it falls apart. Thirty years later their lives are again thrown together and they learn what friendship really means. This is at times an emotionally draining story, mainly because the author does a fantastic job of describing the angst these two boys endure.
