David Liss made his reputation with Historical Novels...great historical novels. This book is a modern day thriller set in Florida and is the story of a young man selling encyclopedias door to door for a suspect gang of booksellers, dope dealers and hog farmers. He is trying to sell books to one couple when a guy walks in and shoots the couple. The thriller turns into a quite fast moving narrative about animal rights, ideology, right vs wrong and the strictures of ultilitarian philosophy. It is a wild ride and worth the journey.
