"I wish Fudge had never been born, I thought. Everything good always happens to him! If he had to be born I wish he could be nine or ten-like me. Then Mr. Vincent wouldn't want him to be the one to ride the Toddle-Bike in his commercial."

A little rascal for a younger brother is what Peter perceives his brother Fudge to be. Despite Fudge's rather obnoxious antics, Peter feels that everyone adores Fudge regardless. However, Peter would prefer Fudge to be his age so that he may perhaps have a friend. The book's plot comprises of various episodes of Fudge and Peter's relationship. Primary, it is common sibling rivalry. While the chapters were humorous and I liked how the ending came full circle with the beginning, I wish Judy Blume had expanded more on how Peter felt at the end of the story towards Fudge. Does his relationship with his younger brother get better? Is this something we must simply infer as the reader? I suppose you can but I really wish Blume had expanded more and given Peter a fuller more complex human reaction to how he felt about his brother at the end.
