A 500-page book that starts off with a multiple-page list of characters to be introduced and a family tree of the Tudors isn't exactly light reading, but this book was totally worth the time. The tone was lighter than I expected, and Thomas Cromwell was an enjoyable protagonist to spend a few weeks with. (It may take you less time; I got struck down by a virus for several days in the middle.) Even though I knew exactly what was going to happen with Katharine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn, there was still a sense of anticipation over how it would happen and how it would affect Cromwell. I started this one not fully expecting to finish, but it turned out to be one of my favorite books read for a while.
