First, this is book 1 of 3. If you're going to take the time to read this, be sure to have the next 2 on hand or you'll be quite disappointed (as I am at the moment).

Terry Brooks easily weaves us into this alternate world where men ride large birds called Rocs from one location to another, where ships don't sail the seas but the air, and where Elves and Dwarves exist.

I'm not a huge fan of fantasy, but enjoyed the world I was transported to. We begin with Hunter Predd, a Wing Rider, who spots a man adrift at sea. Upon rescuing him, the adventure for the book begins, as information in the man's possession foretell of a great adventure. So begins, too, our journey into a land like ours, yet different. A large battle is being fought on the Four Lands, with the Federation fighting for control of the Southlands.

Mystery, adventure, secrets, they're all present in this well-told story. However, you finish book 1 with a note to read book 2 if you don't want to be stuck in suspense. I'm not too keen being left dangling like this, so will seek the 2nd book out soon, to continue the story.
