I was really enjoying this book at the beginning. Cameron, the narrator, has a smart, sarcastic voice that is highly entertaining and perfectly captures a particular brand of disaffected teen boy. After being diagnosed with fatal mad cow disease the story slips into a sort of half magical realism and that's where Bray starts to lose me. Cameron takes off on an increasingly wild and incoherent journey to save the universe, or maybe he's really slipping into a coma and slowly dying. To me there was never enough tension around the "is this real" question, and the lessons he learns at the end could be too easily summed up on a Hallmark card.
