It has a lovely message about the power of writing, but I really wouldn't know who to recommend this one too. The large font makes it seem like it's geared to younger kids, but the story's 4th grade characters seemed unrealistic in many ways -- I just couldn't imagine them as real kids. They didn't act, talk or write like actual 9 or 10-year-olds - they seemed much more mature. I thought the story was a bit contrived and forced.

Amalia When I first read this book, I would have agreed with your assessment. However, after pondering the book a bit, I realized that it was perfect to recommend when a 3rd grade teacher was looking for a read aloud to start a class discussion about writing. It is probably not a book for most elementary kids to read on their own, but what a great place to start with a group talk.
