This is a description of meetings with the Dalai Lama and other Buddhist monks with several Western scientists and philosophers such as Daniel Goleman (wrote Emotional Intelligence), Paul Ekman (studied facial expression and emotion), Alan Wallace, and Georges Dreyfus among other participants, sponsored by the Mind and Life Institute. The Dalai Lama lists and describes Buddhist mental afflictions and discusses and compares these with Western participant's definitions of destructive emotions. Cultural differences and agreements on various points were interesting.
