Wow, what can I say. There is so much I want to talk about and yet nobody I know has read this. Here goes:

1.) I loved this book for the plain and simple fact that the characters are so beautifully crafted. They seem so real, so plausible, and their pain is more than palpable. I loved every minute of this book as I read it on the train and for the most part, I almost always debated not getting off at my stop, just so I could keep reading.

The way in which the story unfolds (no pun intended, ie: triptych) is well done and told from several character perspectives over a range of (scattered) dates. It's hard to read in a way because like any good story, just when things get good, that's when she jumps to a different narrator. It keeps you glued to the pages!

2.) The story gave me a lot to think about in regards to capital punishment. One of the main characters is imprisoned for 35 years and the effects of this imprisonment, whether he is guilty or not, are amazingly detailed and well depicted. It didn't necessarily change any of my views on the issue, yet, but it gave me pause, and perhaps, it has planted a seed of doubt.

3.) Overall the book is thrilling and kept me engaged. At times, there are even parts that made me laugh. Definitely a great book!
