This book focused on Lincoln's role as Commander and Chief during the revolutionary war. It brought out how one of Lincoln's traits was to learn and understand anything he was involved in. I this case, it was military strategy. Had his incompetent generals listened to him a little more and took some initiative, the war might have been over much sooner. I was glad to have read this book and appreciated the angle McPerson took.

You can't help but notice from his writing that McPherson is obviously pro Union and adores Lincoln. McPherson knows his stuff on this subject, but what took his credibility a notch lower for me was his closing sentence on how the problem of reconstruction in the south was not because of too much government, but because not enough government.

Yea, like dying of dehydration is because of too much water.
