it was ok

While the slang is very catchy and I don't think the book would have been readable for me without all the colorful language, I don't think I can say I enjoyed this book. I detested Alex, the main character. Even when horrible things were being done to him, all I could think was that he had already done worse crimes to others and maybe he deserved it.
The biggest problem I had with this book was that Alex NEVER feels remorse or empathy for the things he's done, not even in that last, 21st, supposedly redeeming chapter. He wasn't redeemed, it just made me feel worse that a sociopath was going to add his genes back to the pool. I have read books that were violent and made me despairingly sad and upset and yet called them great books because they said something that needed to be said about society, and the horror made an impression on me somehow. This book did not. It was a very pessimistic vision of a future that I don't fear for, and didn't enjoy reading about.
