I've heard about this book for years and remember people mentioning it in high school--though for whatever reasons none of my teachers used it in their reading schedules. Melissa received a copy several years back and had begun reading it off and on. Once I was done with Crucial Conversations i picked up Uncle Tom's Cabin just to glance at the first couple pages. It turned into 30 pages and then we were competing for the book until I checked out another copy at the library.
I really liked this book for several reason, the first being its character development. Stowe's writing method really sucked me in to the lives of the characters and I felt I really knew them. Perhaps it was also my desire to get into the book. Secondly, the story is a good story in that there are two main plots that twist and turn but reasonably resolve the various conflicts. Lastly, I enjoyed learning more about America during the time setting of the novel. Stowe, IMO, did an excellent job of describing locations...more
